Your people are technical experts, we help their messages land.

Communication Skills Training for Specialists &

Technical Teams

Your people are experts in their fields. But knowing your subject inside out and getting other people to understand, support or act on your ideas are two very different things.

Whether they're explaining a complex solution to a customer, influencing stakeholders, managing competing priorities or challenging a decision, how they communicate matters.

At The Conversation Lab, we help people in specialist roles develop the communication skills to build relationships, ask better questions, navigate difficult conversations and make their expertise count.

When expertise alone isn't enough

You probably know someone who can solve just about any technical problem but struggles to explain their thinking to people outside their field.  Or a project manager who can run a complicated programme but finds it difficult to challenge senior stakeholders when expectations become unrealistic. Perhaps your technical salespeople know every detail of your solution, but customer conversations become demonstrations of what the product can do rather than discussions about what the customer actually needs.

These aren't necessarily gaps in expertise.

They're often gaps in how that expertise is communicated. And when people can't get their ideas across, ask the right questions or bring others with them, good work doesn't always get the attention, support or action it deserves.

Helping your teams to have effective conversations

Our training helps people recognise how they're communicating, understand the impact they're having and develop a broader range of approaches for different situations. We'll work on listening and questioning, explaining complex ideas clearly, understanding different perspectives and adapting communication to the person in front of them. We'll also explore influencing without authority, challenging assumptions, managing competing priorities and handling conversations when people disagree.

For customer-facing specialists, that might mean moving beyond explaining features and technical capabilities to understanding customer needs and communicating business value.

For project and programme managers, it could mean managing stakeholder expectations, challenging unrealistic requests and having more productive conversations when priorities conflict.

The focus is always on the conversations that matter in their particular roles.

Bring us the situations your specialists are struggling with.
We work with engineers, IT professionals, solution architects, technical sales and presales teams, consultants, project and programme managers, product managers and other specialist roles. We don't expect them all to need the same training. We'll work with you to understand where communication is getting in the way and build practical workshops around the situations your people encounter.

That might involve practicing a customer meeting, presenting a recommendation, challenging a stakeholder or working through a difficult conversation with a colleague. There will be opportunities to try different approaches, receive feedback and consider how to apply the learning back at work.

We can deliver standalone workshops, shorter masterclasses or development programmes tailored to your organisation and the people involved.
